Product Overview
Prior to my research, motion design elements are incorporated on a need-to basis, and on demand through ad-hoc workflows that are dependent on designers’ experience in the area. During my time at Grab, I spearheaded a design research project that supported both the Design Operations and Consumer Experience teams in the areas of Motion Design and Gamification. The research set the foundations to motion guidelines for Grab Design Systems and identified key opportunity areas for motion design to enhance ongoing/mature initiatives owned across all Design teams at Grab.
Background
- No/minimal guidelines for the creation of Motion Design
- Lack of stylistic direction for Motion Design
- No dedicated Motion Design team at Grab
- Opportunity to alleviate the complexity of Motion Design for Product Designers
In the span of 12 weeks, I was able to consolidate my research findings, opportunity areas and prototypes in actionable steps for all designers to adopt in their workflow. I also prototyped a total of 8 motion design elements for ongoing/mature initiatives which were later staged for production, such as GrabGifts animations and GrabFood loaders.
